Best San Diego Destinations to Make Lifelong Memories

In all but Midway Museum, the theme parks and attractions listed below are day-long experiences. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and smiles to enjoy a day under the sun!

LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA

At LEGOLAND California, guests will find more than 60 interactive attractions, shows, and rides spread across a 1-28-acre site. There are even some that are designed specifically for children 2 to 12 years old, all geared towards families.

Build your own LEGO-themed raft at LEGOLAND Water Park's seven slides and lazy river. There are also undersea creatures like sea stars, sharks and stingrays visitors can see at SEA LIFE Aquarium!

Spend the night at the nation's first LEGOLAND Hotel, which features 250 LEGO-themed rooms, so you can start your day of park fun early.

SAN DIEGO ZOO

Discover more than 3500 animals of over 650 rare and exotic species in our world-famous Zoo. Bioclimatic exhibits such as Monkey Trails, Lost Forest, Elephant Odyssey, Gorilla Tropics, Sun Bear Forest and Tiger River provide an immersive experience that mimics endangered species' natural habitats. Also, young visitors can interact with zoo critters and enjoy expansive, interactive play areas in the new Wildlife Explorers Basecamp (which replaces the former Children's Zoo).

The 10 acres of gardens feature a children's petting zoo and animal nursery, as well as a three-mile guided bus tour.

SAN DIEGO ZOO SAFARI PARK

A safari park at the San Diego Zoo offers a unique opportunity to experience wild nature up close. As in their native habitats, animals from Africa and Asia roam freely throughout the 1800-acre preserve. Enjoy an exciting expedition and guided tour of rhinos, giraffes, antelopes, gazelles, and more on the Africa Tram Safari.

In the San Pasqual Valley, it's easy to reach this sprawling park just 30 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. Get ready to explore a full day of wildlife watching, so you can observe a cheetah running at full speed and an African lion roaring, or gaze up at majestic eagles, noble owls, and rare Andean condors.

SEAWORLD SAN DIEGO

SeaWorld San Diego offers even more magic along the glistening Mission Bay. Here you'll find dozens of exhibits featuring marine life from around the world, along with spectacular animal shows and presentations. Dolphins and sloths provide lifelong memories during encounters. This park's Penguin Encounter is world-renowned for its penguin encounter where visitors can see 6 species of penguins, including the Emperor, the largest of all. Experience the frozen north at Wild Arctic and meet beluga whales, northern sea otters, and walruses. Visit Turtle Reef to immerse yourself in the world of sea turtles. Over a dozen threatened sea turtles live in this 280000-gallon aquarium, which also features an interactive game and a map that shows turtle rehabilitation progress.

SESAME PLACE SAN DIEGO

In San Diego's newest theme park, families can experience 18 rides, 11 of which are aquatic. A 500000-gallon wave pool surrounded by a sandy beach and a kid-friendly roller coaster await guests at Sesame Place, the only park of its kind on the West Coast. San Diego's SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment park, in the South Bay area, is also a Certified Autism Center run by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment.

USS MIDWAY MUSEUM

This maritime treasure sits along the Embarcadero along San Diego's Embarcadero. The carrier has served in the U.S. Navy for the longest period of time in the 20th century. You'll get a close-up view of a massive engine room, sleeping quarters, galley, brig, and more with a guided audio tour. Children of all ages enjoy the climb-aboard cockpits and flight simulators available on the 4-acre flight deck. Children between 7 and 12 should have an audio tour with content designed specifically for them.

DAY TRIP TO DISNEYLAND

There is plenty to do in San Diego, but you can also take a day trip to Disneyland from here. It is about 90 minutes by car or train from downtown San Diego to the Magic Kingdom. Return to San Diego's relaxed lifestyle the next day and enjoy the beach after a day of rides and recreation.
