As the summer ends, visitors to San Diego celebrate Labor Day by playing in the sun, having BBQs with family and friends, and partaking in the nationwide celebration. But, what is Labor Day? The best weather and fun times are good, but what else are we celebrating? Labor Day celebrates the contribution of the American worker throughout history. Besides San Diego Harbor sunset marking the first official day of the new NFL and college football seasons, it marks the last day to wear seesucker and white (although I ignore this rule). Labor Day can be celebrated in many ways, but how should you celebrate it? You won't find the answer to your problems by working!
I'd like to offer you some suggestions on how to celebrate this national holiday!
It's time for the annual SoCAL Music Festival on Saturday, August 30th from 2pm - 12am! With its sunshine, beautiful people, playful attitudes, great music, art, and activities, Southern California is a place we all love to live. This Labor Day, Flagship Cruises has a San Diego Labor Day BBQ Bash for visitors looking to dress it up a bit. We aren't having a backyard barbecue with uncle Joey. Athletes from all over the state bring their best efforts to the lovely beaches of Oceanside, CA for this annual event, now in its 85th year. You can participate in the one-mile race at Oceanside Pier on Monday September 1st at 7:30am!
It's the U.S. Sandcastle Competition back in San Diego this weekend, but it's at a different location. Now located on the B Street Pier in downtown San Diego, the Sandcastle building challenge is no longer held in Imperial Beach. This great event offers kids the chance to explore the most amazing sandcastles in the world. Our world-class artists are here to build the best 3D sandcastles from around the world. No plastic shovels and buckets here, this is the real deal. As teams from Italy, Portugal, Sand CastlesCanada, and California, among others, showcase their sand-sculpting skills in San Diego, Aug. 29 - Sept. 1, the competition is sure to be intense!
